Let’s face it: sometimes, we find ourselves looking up just how safe our neighborhood really is, or if we’re looking for somewhere new to live, we’ll find ourselves looking up that information then, too. Well, every year, we here at Only In Your State like to do the heavy lifting for you; as is tradition, we bring you the safest towns in Indiana for 2021. Does your town make the cut?

  1. Zionsville

Paula Henry/Flickr Zionsville is a cute little town with a population of just over 27,000. The violent crime rate in Zionsville during 2020/2021 was an awe-inspiring 0.1 violent crimes per 1,000 residents. It’s new to the list this year and it makes its debut as #1. That’s tough to top!

  1. Westfield

Kurt Beard/Flickr Westfield, Indiana, has a population of 43,212, and it’s had quite a renaissance; crime is down through the whole state, but Westfield has seen an improvement in recent years that’s worth mentioning. The violent crime rate per 1,000 residents here is just 0.4.

  1. Carmel

Scott Morris/Flickr Carmel is a beautiful town with plenty of appeal, including the fact that it’s super-safe. The violent crime rate, per 1,000 residents, was just 0.3 in the last year. The population is larger in Carmel than the two previously-mentioned towns, coming in at almost 100,000 residents.

  1. Fishers

Scott Morris/Flickr Fishers is about the same size population-wise as Carmel, and it comes in as a close #4. The violent crime rate here has remained steady since last year, at 0.5 per 1,000 citizens.

  1. West Lafayette

Philip Chang/Flickr One of Indiana’s most scenic towns is also one of its safest. Featuring a population of under 50,000 people, and a violent crime rate of 0.7 per 1,000 residents, West Lafayette is an in-demand place to live, and we can totally see why.

  1. Crown Point

jaygannet/Flickr Crown Point, like many items on this list, has seen an improvement in its crime rate in recent years. In 2021, the violent crime rate has been 0.2 per 1,000 residents, which, like the previous five entries, is still less than one per 1,000 people. Impressive!

  1. Noblesville

Scott Morris/Flickr Noblesville is indeed quite noble, as it makes this list year after year without fail! The violent crime rate in Noblesville is 0.5 per 1,000 citizens, and its population hovers right around 64,500.

  1. Brownsburg

Randall McRoberts/Flickr Brownsburg is a super cute, artsy little place. The population is about 27,000 people, and the violent crime rate here is just a smidge higher than the previous entries, at 1.5 per 1,000 residents.

  1. Greenfield

Indiana Landmarks/Flickr Greenfield is a new entry on this list for 2021; it earned its spot thanks to its low violent crime rate of 0.98 per 1,000 residents. Its population is just over 22,000 people.

  1. Munster

Eric Allix Rogers/Flickr Munster, Indiana, rounds out our list at #10. With a population of 22,412, and a violent crime rate of 1 per 1,000 citizens, it, too, is a remarkably safe place.
