Here in Florida, we definitely know weird. Each of these unique places deserves a visit, at least for some crazy photo opportunities. Visit all of them for an unforgettable tour of the Sunshine State like you’ve never seen it before; these are our picks for the downright weirdest places in Florida that you should check out as soon as possible:
- Spook Hill, Lake Wales
Richard Elzey/Flickr Whether you believe it’s the haunted site of an epic battle or just some kind of intriguing illusion, you’ll agree Spook Hill is most certainly a weird little spot. If you put your car in neutral at the bottom of the hill, it will appear to roll uphill. Huh? Of course, it’s an optical illusion, but wow - it’s something to witness for sure.
Address: Lake Wales, Florida, 33853
- Coral Castle, Homestead
Milan Boers/Flickr Coral Castle is a monolithic structure made to look like a castle, complete with huge furniture and sculptures. It was constructed using tons of coral-formed limestone. The weird thing is that exactly how it was built remains a mystery. Its creator claimed to have sourced, moved, and carved all of the giant stones by himself. Make sure to check the website for the most up-to-date hours and visiting information.
Address: 28655 South Dixie Highway, Homestead, Florida, 33033
- Skunk Ape Research Headquarters, Ochopee
Michael Lusk/Flickr This unique attraction started as the office of Jack Shealy’s Trail Lakes campground. Then, his brother, Dave, took up the search for an elusive Florida version of Bigfoot called the Skunk Ape. Exhibits and a petting zoo make this place a fun stop even for the non-believers. You’ll find more information on the website.
Address: 40904 Tamiami Trail E, Ochopee, Florida, 34141
- Solomon’s Castle, Ona
Steven Miller/Flickr It’s kind of crazy that there is not one, but two castles built single-handedly by two very unique and determined individuals - but it’s true. They’re both really interesting roadside attractions that everyone should check out at least once or twice. Find all the info you’ll need to plan your visit on the official museum website.
Address: 4533 Solomon Road, Ona, Florida, 33865
- The Psychic Town of Cassadaga
Lyndi & Jason/Flickr There are so many psychics living in this small town that it’s called the unofficial psychic capital of the world. If you have any burning questions or an interest in the supernatural, check this place out. They’ll probably know you’re coming.
6 Whimzeyland, Safety Harbour
Flickr/Matthew Paulson This colorful artists’ paradise, also known as The Bowling Ball House, is decorated with bright colors, all kinds of yard art, and, yes, tons of bowling balls - painted and lovingly arranged in different ways. It’s kind of hard to explain, but it’s definitely worth seeing for yourself. See the official Facebook page for more information and lots more pictures!
Address: 1206 3rd Street North, Safety Harbor, Florida, 34695
- Smallest Post Office in the US, Ochopee
Flickr/ya boy mini This tiny farm shed was turned into an emergency post office when the town’s official one burned down in 1953. Then, they decided to keep it. It’s not even big enough to have a bathroom, but you can buy novelty postcards from there and have them sent for you at the same time.
Address: 38000 Tamiami Trail East, Ochopee, Florida, 34141

Weirdest Places in Florida May 06, 2021 Tori Jane What are some fun roadside attractions in Florida? Florida is a really, really big state, and with really big states come plenty of highways and roads. And with plenty of those, well, you end up with a prime location for fun and unique roadside attractions and oddities. Some of the best ones in Florida are such weird little spots as the Skunk Ape Research Headquarters, where the Florida-man equivalent to the Bigfoot legends of days past is, well, looked into. Our state also has a dinosaur-themed park in a literal swamp, a pirate museum, and even Spook Hill, a strange and creepy place where sometimes gravity seems to forget to do its job. Florida is a fun state with plenty to appreciate, and this article goes into a little more depth about some other strange and interesting roadside attractions. Where are the most unique places in Florida? We’ve got plenty of super unique places that are just so distinctly Florida. Dry Tortuga National Park is, for some reason, one of the most under-visited and overlooked parks in the entire country. It’s beautiful, and you will truly never find anywhere else like it. The Florida Keys are an obvious example of the incredible natural beauty our state holds, too, and being there is like being in paradise. We’ve also got cute, quirky little places, too, like the tiniest post office in the world, in Ochopee, and the world’s tiniest police station, in Carrabelle, and mermaids swim the waters of Weeki Wachi Springs State Park. No matter where you turn, you’re bound to find something enchanting about Florida. What are some of the best one-of-a-kind places in Florida? While the “best” certainly is subjective, we’ve got a few examples of our favorite uniquely Florida places to hang out. Florida is a big state with plenty to do, even for those who prefer to be off the beaten path and away from the crowds. Take a dip at Manatee Springs, where you can observe actual manatees in all their natural splendor, or maybe go scuba diving at the Devil’s Den, in Williston. In Key Largo, you’ll find a super-unique underwater hotel, where you can sleep at the bottom of the sea. Sure, you could opt for the amusement parks or the Keys, but why do that when you can beat the throngs of tourists and see some truly unique things?
