One of the most beautiful things about Connecticut is the way each historic building is repurposed into something new and amazing. You will find the most beautiful seaside getaways located in former mansions and amazing restaurants inside former courthouses. One of the sweetest places to visit is the old Litchfield jailhouse. You’ll find shops, a tavern, and The Bakehouse, the cutest and most tantalizing jail cell you’ll ever see.

The oldest public building in Litchfield was built in 1812 with later additions built in 1846. The jail served as a prisoner of war facility during the War of 1812 and became a low-security jail. For a long time, it was considered a country club jail.
