As weather in New York continues to get warmer, it’s time to start planning a good time to explore some of the area’s best beaches! Along the southern coast of Long Island, around an hour east of New York City, lies Fire Island, a 31-mile long barrier island with some of the prettiest beaches in the area.

This island is a welcome escape in a secluded realm of sheer beauty, whether you want to spend a weekend enjoying a beach house or just taking a break on a road trip for a quick walk along the coast.

You might even catch some wildlife wandering the island. Wander down to the west end of the island, and you’ll find Robert Moses State Park, an 875-acre park with five miles of beaches to explore and tons of wildlife to see!

For those looking to go hunting for sea shells, there are a variety of beaches to choose from: on the east end of the island, check out Ponquogue Beach, Cupsogue Beach, and Smith Point County Park.

On the west side of the island, visit Robert Moses State Park and soak in the views.

Just east of Robert Moses State Park, you’ll find the Fire Island Lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse on Long Island!
