There are dozens of great small towns in Washington that make for excellent day trips. We’ve got so many villages with extensive history, delicious food, and tons of charms. One that we love is La Conner. Located in Skagit County, it’s got just under 1,000 residents and is a phenomenal spot for a weekend trip.

Located right on the Swinomish Canal, La Conner has beautiful scenery.

La Conner’s Rainbow Bridge connects the town to Fidalgo Island. There are several boat tours you can take in the area to get the full aquatic experience.

The Pacific Northwest Quilt and Fiber Arts Museum is an 1891 Victorian mansion that houses a collection of quilts and fabric arts.

Another great option for art lovers is the Museum of Northwest Art. Its primary focus is on the Northwest School, a Seattle-based art movement of the 1930s and 1940s.

If you’re ready for some caffeine after exploring the town, it doesn’t get much better than Stompin Grounds Coffee Co. The little shop is adorable and sells delicious hot and cold drinks with many flavoring options.

One other popular spot is the La Conner Brewing Company. It’s a charming little brewery with a great outdoor terrace and fantastic food.

If you decide you want to spend the night in La Conner and stay for the weekend, go for something truly historic! The Hotel Planter was built in 1907 and was one of the town’s earliest hotels.
