Presently, Helena is listed as an unincorporated community in Iowa County; however, that’s not Helena’s original locale.

Since its establishment in 1828, Helena moved three times. The first two locations, which are just a few miles from present-day Helena, occupied the area that is now Tower Hill State Park.

At one time, Helena was home to a retreat known as Tower Hill Pleasure Company. A few of the retreat’s buildings, include a log gazebo and pavilion, are still standing.
