Looking to add another New Jersey trail to your hiking rotation? Luckily, the state has so many amazing places to hike, and they’re all so different from one another. One of our favorites, though, is Norvin Green State Forest, which lives up to its name: If you head here during the warmer months, you’re going to really immerse yourself in a green forest.

One of our favorite trails in the park is one that hits all the hiking benchmarks: It’s not too hard but not too easy, it offers beautiful views, and there are all sorts of sights along the way, including a cave, a waterfall, and wildflowers. If that sounds good to you, read on.

The Hewitt-Butler, Highlands, Roomy Mine and Mine Trail is located near Ringwood, New Jersey and just has so much to offer.

The trail is dotted with gorgeous and interesting wildflowers. We recommend you add in extra time because you are going to want to stop and take photos of all the pretty plants!

Plus, the trail features one of our favorite things to see on a hike: a waterfall! This guy might be small, but it’s still lovely.

And while it is a more strenuous hike (the trail is a 3.8-mile loop one, with an elevation gain of 882 feet) the view at the top is utterly incredible.

Heads up, though: You’re going to want to hike when it’s been dry, as the path can get rocky and muddy (aka beware of slips and falls!).

Still, make sure you try to test out this trail when you can: It’s just a really perfect example of a good New Jersey hike.

Oh, and good news: This hike is definitely fun for the whole family. It’s rated “kid-friendly” on AllTrails, and dogs are welcome on the trail as well. They just need to be put on a leash!
