Hiking in New Hampshire is something to be enjoyed throughout the year and we’re always on the lookout for new views, trails and, activities. When looking for a route we hadn’t yet tried, someone mentioned the “Little Yosemite of the East” and we were intrigued. So, we checked it out and decided this is definitely one that needs to be shared!
The Turtleback Mountain Trail combined with the Brook Walk Trail Loop makes up a 1.8-mile loop with lovely scenery.

Located within the Castle in the Clouds Conservation Area, the route is well-maintained and easy to navigate.

Signs are clearly marked and you’ll probably run into other friendly hikes exploring. For part of the looped trail you’ll follow the shore of Shannon Pond, which allows for views of the surrounding forests and mountains.

Each of the five, which include Song of Fall, Briddle Veil Falls, Roaring Falls, Twin Falls and Whittier Falls, are different offering a better understanding of the different types of landscape and geology of New Hampshire.

Because much of this trail follows a waterway, either falls or the pond, you’ll want to be mindful of slippery conditions as some of the viewing areas get quite close to these beauties.

Spend some time admiring each one and then continue following the trail to the place you started. The beauty of a looped trail is that the entire thing offers new views!

The Turtleback Mountain and Brook Walk Trail Loop is located within the Castle in the Clouds Conservation Area. Trails are accessible every day from dusk to dawn and parking can be found at the designated hiker parking lot on Ossipee Park Road just across from the CG Roxanne water bottling plant. There are lots of great ways to enjoy the trails with waterways in this state. This easy but gorgeous hike, the Ellis Rive Ski Trail leads to a little-known river in New Hampshire.
