If you are like most of us, your international travel is currently on hold, which is why we were beyond thrilled to learn more about the jaw-dropping Cathedral of St. Joseph in South Dakota, which looks like a historic church you would find in Europe.
Tucked away in Sioux Falls, the Cathedral of St. Joseph is a c. 1919 church that has long been referred to as a “Beacon of Hope.”

Billed as being an important meeting place for the community and diocese alike, the architecture of the Cathedral at St. Joseph is reminiscent of the Renaissance Revival and features an intricate limestone exterior and 2 eye-catching spires.

In terms of its interior, St. Joseph boasts many of the features you have come to know and love of Catholic churches, including French-stenciled stained glass windows, a marble high altar and tester, and a full-color painting of the entire inside.

In addition to the main church, the Cathedral at St. Joseph is also home to the smaller Sacred Heart Chapel that was added in 2004 as well as a parish hall in the basement.

Self-guided tours of the Cathedral are available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and then again from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. (funeral or wedding pending).
