West Virginia is filled with hidden gems and undiscovered attractions, and we love it that way. But deservedly, the state also boasts a few vistas known around the nation – and some of them are even famous around the world! Once such iconic scene, according to rumors, is Babcock State Park’s Glade Creek Gristmill.
Tucked away in Babcock State Park in the New River Gorge region of Fayette County, West Virginia, is a fully functional grist mill still used regularly for grinding corn and grain - Glade Creek Gristmill.

Built in 1976 with pieces and parts of several local mills, this mill pays homage to the hundreds of gristmills that once dotted the West Virginia waterways.

But not only is Glade Creek Grist Mill functional; it’s also beautiful.

Tourists and locals alike seem to agree that it is especially pretty come fall, but you won’t regret a visit in any season. In spring, find it ornamented with delicate wildflowers. In the summer, cool off in a swimming hole at its base. In winter, enjoy it under a quiet blanket of pure white snow.
