The “old man” the cave is named for is Richard Rowe, a local recluse who lived in the cave in the late 1700s with his two dogs. Supposedly, Rowe is buried in the cave, though no one knows the exact location of his remains.

One famous area of Old Man’s Cave is Devil’s Bathtub, a streambed that contains a tiered waterfall that has worn a basin within the sandstone. The swirling waters constantly erode more of the rock away, so the basin enlarges each year.
