Though drive-in restaurants are pretty common in Mississippi, carhops are rather rare. However, there are several drive-ins you can still pull into and Johnnie’s Drive-In is one of them. But carhop service isn’t the only reason you’ll want to visit. The authentically retro drive-in also serves up great grub and has ties to Elvis Presley.
Located in Tupelo, Johnnie’s Drive-In is a great place to get your fill of classic American eats along with a hearty helping of nostalgia.

Vintage appeal isn’t the drive-in’s only claim to fame, though. Johnnie’s Drive-In was once Elvis Presley’s favorite dining spot in Tupelo.

Paying homage to its most famous customer, the drive-in’s walls are plastered with Elvis photos and memorabilia.

There’s also a plaque etched with the words “The Elvis Booth,” which marks what was once the King’s unofficial table, giving patrons the chance to dine where Elvis dined.
