Georgia is becoming its own little Hollywood, or perhaps it already has been. We’ve been taking the movie scene by storm by having dozens of movies filmed right in our backyards! Can you guess what famous movies or shows were shot here? Here are our picks for some of the most notable Georgia places seen in movies:

  1. Swan House in “The Hunger Games.”

Milos Kravcik/Flickr They shot the popular Hunger Games trilogy, in part, all throughout Atlanta. The “president’s house” is actually the historic Swan House, built in 1928.

  1. The Atlanta Motor Speedway was the site of the Quarter Quell Chariot Parade in “The Hunger Games.”

  1. Morris Brown College in “The Walking Dead.”

Levois J/Flickr The Walking Dead is a wildly popular show filmed almost entirely in Atlanta. This old, abandoned college was the site for a shot of an abandoned veterinary campus in season four.

  1. Grantville, a small Georgia town in the northwest part of the state, was an ideal place to shoot much of the post-apocalyptic scenes in season three of “The Walking Dead.”

  1. Senoia, Georgia is another major film spot for “The Walking Dead” where much of Season 4 was filmed.

  1. The Whistle Stop Cafe in “Fried Green Tomatoes.”

Rebecca Milby/Flickr The setting for this movie was fictional town Whistle Stop, Alabama. In reality, they shot ithe film in Juliette, Georgia, where the Whistle Stop Cafe is still thriving.

  1. Chippewa Square in “Forrest Gump.”

Scott Groppenbecker/Flickr They filmed perhaps one of the most iconic movies of our time in Savannah. They shot the famous bench scenes, in which Forrest sits reflecting upon his life, in Chippewa Square. The bench is now preserved at the Savannah History Museum.

  1. “Anchorman 2” in Woodruff Park, Atlanta.

Wally Gobetz/Flickr This movie’s “battle between the news stations” took place in Woodruff Park in downtown Atlanta. There are many shots where the Flatiron Building can be seen behind the actors. What is it that’s so much fun about recognizing places in movies? We don’t know, but it’s pretty great.

Did you recognize any of these places? How many places throughout the state do you know of where they shot movies or TV? Let us know in the comments!

Georgia Places Seen in Movies April 02, 2021 Tori Jane Where are some famous places in Georgia? There are lots of famous places in Georgia, believe it or not! For example, we’re home to the largest aquarium in the world, known as Georgia Aquarium. The aquarium is home to over 100,000 critters, so plan to stay awhile. Martin Luther King, Jr., was born and buried in Georgia, and his gravesite is world-famous. You can take a self-guided tour and see the house he was born in nearby, as well. Another great one is the World of Coca-Cola; the iconic beverage was born right here in Georgia, and there’s a whole museum dedicated to it that you just can’t miss. Looking for a little more inspiration? Check this list out for some must-see Georgia historic sites! What were some movies filmed in Georgia? Believe it or not, despite being a little far from Hollywood, plenty of movies have been filmed right here in Georgia over the years. For example, the terrifying modern classic “Cape Fear” was filmed here - and so was the original film they based it on. 2010’s horror hit The Crazies was filmed here, too, and so was the ultra-successful “Hunger Games” series. Turns out, you don’t need to go to California to check out some Hollywood history, because it’s here in our backyard. Best of all, the list goes on: more movies filmed in the Peach State include “I, Tonya,” “Jumanji: The Next Level,” 2018’s “The Little Mermaid,” “My Cousin Vinny,” and even a couple of films in the popular “Madea” series by Tyler Perry. Who are the most famous people from Georgia? Over the decades, Georgia has proudly been the home state of lots of talented and interesting people, both of celebrity fame and historic significance. For example, President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, are both from the Peach State, and so was civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. Actor Stacy Keach was born here, and so was country singer Jason Aldean. James Brown was born in South Carolina, but he called Georgia home. Other Georgia celebs include comedian Jeff Foxworthy, baseball player Tom Foley, and rapper Lil John.
